McLuhan said: “When people understand that this generation gap is really a technological gap, it will help them to get things in some sort of order again.”
But if the technological gap widens at anything approaching the pace that Ray Kurzweil believes it will - if the Singularity is really that near - then the gap will become something incomprehensible. My grandchild will be a radically different being than I am. In fact, I may have more in common today with an absolute stranger, than I could ever hope to have with a grandchild who has lived her entire life with swarms of nanobots swimming through her blood that let her go hours without oxygen, eat for pleasure alone, or live exponentially longer.
When you and I are old (and a bit senile)
how will we interface with a generation
that has transcended biology?
